Khomusist-Virtuoso of the World

This is the chance to earn the title "Jew's Harp/Khomus Virtuoso of the World"! On 27 and 28 November in Yakutsk/Russian Federation, an international jury decides who will be included in the list of international Jew’s Harp/Khomus Virtuoso. You may participate, either in person or -because of COVID- virtually. In 1991 and in 2011, each time 9 musicians from various countries received this title.

REGULATIONS OF III INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF KHOMUS (TRUMP) PERFORMERS "KHOMUSIST-VIRTUOSO OF THE WORLD"

1. GENERAL REGULATIONS

1.1. This regulation establishes the procedure for organizing, conducting and summing up the results of the International Contest of Khomus (Trump) Performers "Khomusist - Virtuoso of the World";

1.2. Date and Place of holding: November 27-28, 2021, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Yakutsk;

1.3. Organizers of the contest: Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Ministry of Culture and Spiritual Development of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Peoples of the World Khomus Museum and Center, International Jew's Harp Society (IJHS).

2. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CONTEST

2.1.  Determination of the performer's level using traditional and nontraditional styles and techniques of playing khomus varieties (trump);

2.2.  Establishing a variety of traditional and nontraditional methods, techniques of playing khomus (trump) of different peoples;

2.3.  Expansion of virtuoso performance on the khomus (trump) in different countries of the world.

3. PARTICIPANTS OF THE CONTEST

3.1. Recognized khomus (trump) performers of the countries of the world who are over 25 years old. The age of the participants is determined as of November 27, 2021;

3.2.The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), based on the results of the qualifying round among Yakutian performers, will be represented at the competition by 9 participants. The qualifying round among the Yakutian performers is held on October 9, 2021 in the city of Yakutsk.

4. MAIN REQUIREMENTS

4.1. The competitors provide the organizing committee with presentation material about themselves and their work (one month before the competition);

4.2.  The competition consists of 2 rounds;

4.3.  In round 1, the competitors perform two compositions of their own creation:

-          Performance using traditional styles and playing techniques of their region;

-          Free performance: improvisation.

4.4.  Contestants who have made it to the final will perform 1 composition based on a theme given by members of the international jury (improvisation);

4.5. The performance duration of each composition is maximum 5 minutes;

4.6. The competitors can perform their compositions on any kind of khomus (bamboo, wood, bone, iron);

4.7. Accompanying with other musical instruments or phonograms is not allowed during the competition performance.

4.8. The order of performance in the competition is determined by drawing lots and remains until the end of the competition.

5. CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION OF COMPETITORS

5.1. Traditional performance demonstrating mastery of original folk styles and techniques.

5.2. Musical content of the composition, dynamism, thematic integrity.

5.3. Creativity and uniqueness.

5.4. Stage culture, costume.

6. THE JURY

6.1. The total number of members of the international jury (hereinafter - the Jury) is 7 people;

6.2. The jury consists of 3 representatives from the International Jew’s Harp Society, 2 representatives from among the world's virtuoso khomusists from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), 1 representative from the organizing committee and 1 representative from the Peoples of the World Khomus Museum and  Center;

6.3. The Chairman of the jury is elected from among the members of the International Jury;

6.4. The jury evaluates on 10-point grading system;

6.5. The composition of the Jury can be changed (reduced, enlarged, replaced) after publication on the websites of the International Jew's harp Society, the Ministry of Culture and Spiritual Development of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Peoples of the World Museum and Center and / or after the official announcement (presentation) on round 1 of the competition by the decision of the organizing committee of the competition;

6.6. The jury confers after each round;

6.7. All the protocols of the jury are handed over to the organizing committee for subsequent transfer to the archives of the Peoples of the World Khomus Museum and Center;

6.8. The jury minutes are not published and are not provided for review;

6.9. The jury's decisions are final and not subject to revision.

7. AWARDING THE WINNERS OF THE CONTEST

7.1. The results of the contest are announced on November 30, 2021 at the Gala evening dedicated to the celebration of Khomus Day in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia);

7.2. The winners of the title "Khomusist-Virtuoso of the World" are awarded with diplomas and silver medals. The total number of awards is 9 sets;

7.3. The jury does not set itself the goal of awarding all the awards and has the right to reduce the number of winners of the title "Khomusist-Virtuoso of the World";

7.4. The organizing committee attracts charitable contributions from companies, firms and individual representatives of the business community for the competition and the establishment of special prizes on their behalf.

8. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

8.1. To participate in the competition, the participant submits an application to the organizing committee in electronic form in accordance with Appendix No. 1, as well as consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Appendix No. 2. Applications are accepted from July 1 to November 1, 2021;

8.2. Applications for participation in the competition are sent to e-mail: Khomusist-Virtuose2021@mail.ru.

9. COPYRIGHT AND OTHER RIGHTS

9.1. The participants give permission and consent for the organizers to use photos, audio, video and other materials submitted to the organizing committee for advertising, news announcements and / or for other purposes within the framework of the current legislation of the Russian Federation;

9.2. The performers are responsible for the performance of compositions, including performance of compositions by other authors.

10. FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

10.1. Visa and air travel expenses to Yakutsk are borne by the participants of the Competition at their own expense;

10.2. Accommodation and meals for participants on the competition days on November 27-30 are at the expense of the organizers;

10.3. The registration fee for participants from the Russian Federation in the amount of 7,500 rubles and 100 US dollars for participants from other countries must be paid until November 1, 2021.

11. FORCE MAJEURE CIRCUMSTANCES

11.1. In the event that restrictive measures related to the spread of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) are in force at the time of the contest, competitors may participate in absentee format.

The transfer of my personal data to other persons or their other disclosure may be carried out only within the framework of the organizing committee’s work of the III International Contest of Khomus (Trump) Performers "Khomusist - Virtuoso of the World".
